Kymara - Trippin' [Video]
As she gears up for her UK/EU tour, Brighton’s Kymara releases her debut EP ‘New Road’, hitting us with lead single ‘Trippin’ along the way. A blaring, joyous, jazz-led jostle, ‘Trippin’ deftly showcases Kymara’s effortlessly radiant, soulful and (frankly) jaw-on-the-floor vocals, which leave us in no doubt that this artist is one to watch.
Speaking on the inspiration behind her ‘New Road’ project, Kymara explains:
“It’s about the most poignant emotions I've experienced throughout my twenty-somethings so far; especially those feelings attached to being a woman. It’s about my romantic relationships, the relationships I have with my family and friends and the love-hate relationship I have with myself sometimes. From a less personal perspective, it’s about the things you may not understand about yourself in your twenties, the things that go on around you that may trigger deeper questions, the things you see other people going through that you can relate to and those things which you can't.
As a result of the early writing process, each song is completely different from the others genre-wise, though I think what ties the music together is that soulfulness; my own unique sprinkling of soul sauce. Sonically, I’ve traversed influences from Pink Floyd all the way through to James Blake and each song has a strikingly different reference point, because each song was written with a different instrumentalist each with their own unique approach to melody. In that way, every band member has left their sonic stamp on at least one track from the project and that is something that feels very sentimental to me as a performer.”
