Au/Ra - Screw Feelings [Video]
Alt-pop singer songwriter Au/Ra dropped her latest track ‘Screw Feelings’ alongside accompanying visuals with stunning production. The track comes after she announced the release of her new project ‘Soundtrack To An Existential Crisis, due for release on August 27.
Capturing the overpowering sensation of wishing we could put a cap on our emotions, Au/Ra captivates listeners with spell-binding melodies paired with evocative lyrics. ‘Screw Feelings’ sees her fleet between two characters who illustrate the stark contrast of emotions from high to low, using airy soft vocals before switching to a menacing husky growl that’s backed by the monotonous looming beat. Exploring the nark nature of humanity, Au/Ra’s strength lies in her ability to translate feelings around mental health, complex relationships and social media through her art to help both herself and her fans make sense of the world around them.
Speaking on the track Au/Ra states, “‘Screw Feelings’ is about being utterly done with dealing with the ups and downs of having emotions and wishing you didn’t have them at all.” The song comes with a captivating video, directed by Erin Elders, which illustrates the dichotomy of Au/Ra splitting her time between your average student and her darker alter ego, throwing emotions to one side to rebel against societal expectations.
At only 19, the Ibiza-born, Antigua raised artist already has two UK Top 40 tracks under her belt with 2018’s platinum hit, the Camelphat remix of ‘Panic Room’ and more recently as a feature on Jax Jones’ ‘i miss u’. Au/Ra shows absolutely no sign of slowing down.
