Sophie Odira - Little Love [Audio]
Already displaying heaps of musical maturity and her own personalised style is 18-year-old singer songwriter, Sophie Odira with her first track ‘Little Love’. The single delivers her adept observation of the low standards that men are often held to in relationships, and how we need to stop accepting the bare minimum.
The track kicks off with Sophie earnestly laying down her feelings singing softly:
“The bars on the floor // don’t have to buy me flowers or hold the door // it’s enough that you just listen when I talk // cause no man’s ever done that before.”
The lyrics in the second half of the track evolve with an eye-opening manner, taking a contemplative approach as she reflects on her unintentional complacency towards her youthful romances with the lines:
“So, I lower my expectations and get by on mild infatuation // and if they excel the bare minimum tastes a lot more sweet // in my innocence I believed what I saw in movie scenes // it’s a strange world we’re living in when curtesy can sweep you off your feet.”
Speaking of the track, Sophie explained, “sometimes you feel like the bare minimum is all that you deserve, and if you expect the bare minimum then you can never be disappointed because you don't have all these massively high expectations. I know that a lot of people relate to that first verse, but I want people to listen and realise that’s not the be all and end all of love and relationships. You don’t have to get into a relationship for the sake of it or be in one which doesn’t serve you how it should be. It’s okay to be on your own.”
Translating complex feelings into relatable, poignant lyrics with a breezy melodic backdrop, Sophie raises the bar high with this first release and we look forward to hearing more from her.
