YAS - IDEA OF YOU [Video]
Giving us a Bonnie and Clyde narrative for the visuals of her latest single is LA-based Japanese-Egyptian-Kuwaiti artist, YAS. Capturing her love and affinity for 90s R&B, her latest release ‘IDEA OF YOU’ is a hypnotic soulful track that adopts an immersive nature with its emotive lyricism, angelic vocals and adept production.
Directed by Erik Rojas and shot in Los Angeles, the visual illustrates the songs’ theme of lust, lies and love with the portrayal of a notorious heist couple. The video stars YAS herself, as the female crime partner who appears calm and composed throughout until an unsuspected ending leaves her in a very sticky situation. “I didn't want to do the typical R&B video,” explains YAS on the visual. “We all know the Kelly Rowland song where she pops out her Excel sheet to text Nelly or the classic shots of a girl singing on a bed cut with slow motion arguments with her boyfriend....I think those are played out now and I wanted to be a little more dramatic.”
“'IDEA OF YOU' was my visual representation of how quickly love can cause you to lose sight of the truth,” she continues. “Sometimes you just fall in so deep you don't even realize how bad the situation is gotten until it's too late.”
As a classically trained violinist who has excelled across song writing, arranging, composing and producing, each track she releases further endorses her expert musicianship and lyrical aptitude. ‘IDEA OF YOU’ is taken from YAS’ two-track ‘PURPLE’ EP, following EPs ‘RED’ and ‘BLUE’ which she released throughout the year. YAS is set to continue her rise to stardom with the final instalment of the EP series entitled ‘YELLOW’, then leading onto her highly anticipated debut LP ‘COLORS’, expected later this year.
