UPSAHL - Douchebag [Video]
LA’s bad-girl of pop takes on the less than worthy dudes in her life with cheeky new song ‘Douchebag’. But to all you kids at home, please don’t kick anyone in the crotch.
Oh UPSAHL, will we ever tire of your unapologetic sass? Oldies like me who loved P!nk and Avril Lavigne in their heyday will rejoice at the rise of the grunge and rock influenced UPSAHL. In a time where so many pop stars seem to be cast in the same mold, it’s refreshing to have a talented pop star who so gleefully embraces the messiness of life, with songs like ‘Drugs’, ‘12345SEX’ and ‘People I Don’t Like’ playfully rebelling against our understanding of what a nice young lady should say. ‘Douchebag’ sees Taylor Upsahl once again serving straight up honesty, addressing her ex directly to explain, quite simply, why they’re a douchebag. The visuals capture the bigger picture, opening with a slo-mo shot of UPSAHL’s chunky boot heading straight towards a guy’s unspeakables, followed by the artist facing a string of dates with guys who, unsurprisingly, all turn out to be douches. The music itself is catchy as anything with UPSAHL’s incredibly versatile vocals winning you over in their usual sing-songy way over a jerky bassline. If it’s not your cup of tea, well, I think you can guess what UPSAHL would call you.
“This is the first song off my debut album and the start of my story over the past year,” the artist says. “I wrote it during a messy ass breakup. When it ended, it felt like a part of me ended too. Hope you guys dig the vid and stay tuned for Chapter 2!”
