Niia - Not Up For Discussion [Video]

LA’s Niia teams up with Khruangbin bassist Laura Lee on for her wry new single ‘Not Up For Discussion’, which arrives paired with an intimate video following Niia in an apartment-based creative haven.

Niia is undeniably an intriguing artist with plenty of strings to her bow. A multi-instrumentalist, producer, singer, songwriter and director, she melds together jazz (which she studied at Berklee School of Music) and R&B for a sultry and alternative blend of the two, peppered with more futuristic sounding electronic elements that lend her vintage-tinged sonics a more modern feel. ‘Not Up For Discussion’ offers a nihilistic perspective delivered in languid tones as she delivers lines like, “nothing really matters” and “fall in love or donʼt fall at all.” This fairly minimalist single is bolstered by Laura Lee’s snaking bass lines and a steady beat, allowing for Niia’s hushed, seductive vocals and ironic lyrics to creep into the muted spotlight. The hazy music-video for the tune is directed by Niia herself, and takes us through an unfairly cool and spacious LA apartment which doubles as a place to hang with friends, have a smoke and make music. Is it just me who’s jealous?
