Giving ethereal vocals on her new release is London singer, songwriter, vocal arranger and violinist, Sipprell. ‘More Than We Are’ hears Sprirrell’s sky high voice sit amongst a soft cloud of laid-back R&B production.

Created during lockdown with producer Solomon Fox, this single serves as the follow up to Sipprell’s 2020 EP Bad History which received wide-spread acclaim. Challenging us to listen to our inner desires instead of tiptoeing around our emotions, she sings:

“You should know that // If you lower your guard // If you say yes // We can be more than we are // Cause you know that // When you open your heart // We can be more than we are.”

Speaking on the release, Sipprell shares, “the song is about fear of vulnerability and the games people play to protect themselves.” The accompanying music video directed by Melody Berkery shows the vulnerability depicted through shots of Sipprell singing in a grand yet derelict house. The wallpaper is stripped from the rooms, reflecting the risk of the exposure we open ourselves to when we lower our guard.

A multi-faceted artist, Sipprell boasts writing cuts and vocal arrangements on Nao’s latest album, And Then Life Was Beautiful as well as performing violin and providing backing vocals for Ed Sheeran at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend earlier this year.
