Amber Mark - 1894 [Video]
New York based singer, songwriter and producer Amber Mark releases ‘1894,’ the third track from her ongoing ‘COVERED-19’ series of covers and original tracks. Beginning with a cover of Nirvana’s ‘Heart-Shaped Box,’ the singer has gone on to release a new self-produced and recorded track from her NYC apartment every fortnight during lockdown. Each release is also accompanied with a home-made visual.
Creating a fun, powerful anthem for women everywhere, ‘1894’ challenges the entitlement men feel they have, based on a women’s choice to look and feel sexy. It’s no secret a lot of men assume women dress up and look good to gain their attention but in reality, women are doing it for themselves. Singing on the chorus, “I’m a flex on the floor, that don’t mean I’m asking for it. If I want sex I’ll ask for it, this ain’t 1894,” Mark’s message is absolutely loud and clear and we are so here for it.
Keen to remain productive during the current pandemic resulting in self-isolation, Mark shared the following reflection which is truly amazing:
“For me, making music in the Covid-19 quarantine has probably been the only positive to come out of a tragedy like this. All the pressure I normally feel when working on music is lifted. And I just have this ‘f**k it’ mentality. People get to really see you in your most bare state and vice versa. That’s the beauty in the music I’m making right now. It’s just me whipping up whatever I’m feeling. Keeping it minimal has been the key mentality for me and just having fun with it. I used to stress so much about visuals and the message I was sending with my music. I’ve learned a lot about myself already during the quarantine. And hope to keep this mentality going when all of this is finally over.”
As for the visual, you can tell Amber and her two girls, really enjoyed making this. Check out ‘1894’ below and you can also stream the track on Spotify.
