syd B - Lights On [Audio]
LA based singer syd B releases her new single ‘Lights On’ today, an airy and comforting track about self realisation, once a relationship has ended. After writing ‘Lights On’ the 22 year old singer discerned there is no destination to adulthood. The song highlights syd’s acceptance that there is no completeness she can achieve or that she has ever succumb to and the road to her happiness comes from looking at and questioning herself, not for others to help her determine.
Talking on the release, syd B says:
"For young people we are made to believe that there is such a weakness in connectivity, strength in separation, wholeness in connectivity, and selfishness in separation. I see now that it is selfless to let go of people who you've outgrown, chances are they've outgrown you as well and are just coming to the realization later.
This song is about making the decision to lose a companion, and recommitting to myself. I think commitments to yourself are made and renewed yearly, monthly, weekly, and daily. It's all so blurry when you love and care for someone, but setting boundaries should feel like growing pains, not like attacks.
As women we are told that the kindness is all to aspire to in a partner. If someone is seemingly "good to you" you're greedy to ask for more. You do not need permission to choose yourself."
‘Lights On’ follows Syd B’s 2019 release ‘Water Me,’ a jazz inspired, soulful five-track EP, a beautiful soundtrack to those calming and chilled days, with the sun shining in our face. That’s the feeling Syd’s music gives us.
