Jeshi - Mask On [Video]
Following on from his ‘Bad Taste’ EP, emerging East London rapper Jeshi shares his new single ‘Mask On’.
Jeshi has already had some big successes, including two collaborations with Celeste and supporting Slow Thai on tour in early 2020. In his latest track, the Walthamstow rap artist mixes deft wordplay with casual delivery to make a big statement. In Jeshi’s mind, we all mask ourselves to conceal our vulnerabilities and men are especially susceptible to hiding themselves in the name of masculinity. The release arrives with an impactful video, directed by Walid Labri that represents Jeshi struggling to be listened to and seen.
Speaking on the single, Jeshi shared, “It deals with the metaphorical masks we all wear whether that’s just a fake smile, or the material things like the nice house, car or jewellery we use to shield whatever it is you’ve got going on inside from outsiders. I grew up feeling like I could never be vulnerable, I’ve still got a lot of that to shake off - I’m still walking around in the mask too.”
