London Fashion Week | Autumn / Winter 2019 DB Berdan
Streetwear brand DB Berdan returns to Fashion Scout this season in collaboration with PUMA and as always, I’m left with excitement after previewing their collection. For autumn / winter 2019 founders Deniz and Begum Berdan explore the issues of double standards within the fashion industry. It’s no secret that being queer has become a hot trend, with members of the LGBTQ community being tokenised for what they are, rather than who they are. On one hand the situation is amazing, acceptance amongst some is apparent however, there is still prejudice and mistreatment taking place within this community as well and it’s this that we must not forget.
With the purpose to create a safe space for their Queer family, DB Berdan continue to explore designs based around 90’s silhouettes however, this season turning them into combat style ready to wear pieces - symbolising a coat of armour for the wearer, allowing them to be ready to fight against any prejudices and negativity.
The collection includes oversized raver pants, aluminium puffas, pinstriped denim joggers, tartan coats and textured collage style knitted pieces, presented through the use of earthy tones such as burgundy, army green, light brown and contrasting prints in neon colours.
