Jaz Karis - Petty Lover [Video]

Those who are new to the soulful sounds of south London R&B songstress Jaz Karis, are soon to be captivated by the angelic vocals from this Brit School alumna. 

The opening lines, “Yes I’m a petty lover today, cause I’m still mad about yesterday” set the pace for a video showing her on-screen boyfriend, actor Nathan Hector (The Intent), flirting with another woman at a house party. Karis witnesses this and stays quiet, until being spotted by her beau where an argument ensues. Ultimately, the event remains reeling through her mind leaving the soul singer reluctant to return to bed next to her man.

The simple concept, mirrored by the minimal yet effortless composition from producer Aston Rudi, makes for a shoulder-sway-worthy record. We fell head over heels after witnessing the song live at her guest performance slot on fellow south Londoner Jords’ headline show at Notting Hill Arts Club back in May 2018. Karis’s smooth interaction with the audience had everyone singing “let that shit go” back to her, in true call and response style.

Karis eloquently nods towards fellow UK R&B star Mahalia, repeating a similar flow and word pattern to hit track ‘Sober’ on the lines, “You keep calling me sober, like there's something to say. But now the weekend is over, it’s just another day.”
