Looking back at our Introspective Evening with Kyra, a night filled with creativity and connection

We had the pleasure of closing out the tail end of 2022 with a truly magical event. An Introspective Evening with Kyra was birthed around the idea of self care for ourselves and also our close communities. For singer-songwriter Kyra, that close community is her sister circle, which she describes as a group of women who support, uplift and hold space for one another. Hosted by the wonderful Jocelyn Yeboah-Newton of Our Naked Truths, we took to BRXTN Village Studios to honour Kyra in the final trimester of her pregnancy, as she modelled for an absolutely exquisite life drawing experience.

The energy throughout the event was of pure joy and love. Each guest was presented with a gift bag on arrival, filled with wellness treats from infused teas to bath bombs and gorgeous body products from Rituals.

The event kicked off with a holistic movement session by Tasha Keating of She Runs It, whilst hand massages were also on the go, compliments of Tasha Awan, founder of Massage Excellence.

With sketch pads at the ready, along with a selection of different drawing utensils, guests took their seats to begin a life drawing session like no other. Pure tranquility was present within the space as Jocelyn led the group through meditation, to soothe our minds and transcend our collective creative abilities.

As Nag Champa aromas filled the space, Kyra took to a number of positions bearing the beauty of new life. From standing poses to laying amongst a bed of flowers, Kyra presented such grace and patience as her community explored the experience of life drawing, with Kyra as their muse.

The life drawing followed with the introspection. In conversation with Jocelyn, Kyra shared her experiences of balancing motherhood alongside her career. With real honesty she shared the challenges of motherhood, dealing with grief and the fact it’s OK to want and need time for yourself, all of which navigate towards the themes of her forthcoming EP ‘as things grow’.

To close the introspection, Kyra ending with a performance of her latest single ‘excellent’. DJ Cyndi Handson took to the decks for the rest of the evening, spinning an array of smooth and sultry tunes. The Duppy Share Spiced Rum was in full flow and that my friends, was our first DSTNGR Presents… An Introspective Evening with Kyra.
