Coco Capitán x Charles & Keith Capsule Collection

The classic Charles & Keith pieces we love, with an artistic twist

Inspired by the childhood game of ‘He loves me, He loves me not’, this collection is elegant in its design with a youthful artistic spin. “My art is inspired by overheard conversations, diary entries, and sudden waves of introspection,” shares Spanish-born artist Coco Capitán. “I believe that words can transcend cultures and give us a glimmer of hope for brighter times.”

Using the androgynous and structured silhouettes of the Charles & Keith loafers and bags as the canvas, Capitán has hand stitched blue daisies across the brands iconic Perline Penny loafers, as well as the handwritten slogan ‘Loves Me Blue, Loves Me Blue Not’. The pieces were kept a solid black so that the slogans were the main focal point and can spark conversation.

This collaboration was striving to explore the complex emotions that prose can evoke in fashion, while celebrating the creativity and special moment of wearable art. Capitán is known for showcasing her artwork and poetic thoughts in galleries over the world, and this time has demonstrated her signature style on not only the brands loafers but also their double handle sculptural tote bag, as well as taking over their well known logo with her own, original script.

The slogan ‘Loves Me Blue, Loves Me Blue Not’ tells a hopeful tale of a solitary blue flower, blooming through concrete. In order for each wearer to feel their piece is individual, purposeful uneven stitching was used to hint at intimacy and personality through the piece. These items work perfectly as collectors items, giving a physical use for Capitán’s art and creating a new spin on the ever loved Charles & Keith classics. This is the first time for the brand to be collaborating with an artist this way and as Fredie Stevens, Design Director of Charles & Keith states, “the brand is excited to be a catalyst in promoting creativity, tapping into the minds of globally acclaimed artists to create limited edition and unique pieces featuring their artwork.”
