Glamorous femininity with a modern edge: Jimmy Choo and Mugler join forces
Power, confidence and glamorous femininity is the vision in which this fusion of two heritages is founded on. Sandra Choi and Casey Cadwallader, the respective creative directors of Jimmy Choo and Mugler have joined forces to create this innovative and effortlessly confident collection.
‘Extreme’ and ‘Empowerment’ are the words that inspire this collection. Taking influence from the history of the french house Mugler and Jimmy Choo’s legacy of glamorous craftsmanship, combined with the twenty-first century identities forged by both creative directors.
Intended to stimulate the senses the brands blend their different but strong and dramatic aesthetics seamlessly. “Casey Cadwallader’s Mugler is all about celebrating femininity - that’s what drew me to him, to his world, and to the amazing array of personalities he dresses,” shares Sandra Choi, creative director of Jimmy Choo. “There’s an inherent connection there between the language of Mugler and the language of Jimmy Choo - our roots in the 1990s, the resonance those have today with a younger generation, but the urge to update, to re-engineer and not just revive.”
This capsule collection transgresses boundaries and challenges conventions. The body is used to bring the pieces to life, to define them and challenge conventions. The skin is framed with seams, chains and fine leather straps. The colour palette is focused and defined in black and nude, neon yellow, silver and gold. Universal silhouettes are showcased with a 100mm heel with a carved, architectural shape and a graphic, sharply squared base. The vamp is elongated, exaggerated, razored to a fine point - a focal-point on the foot, and the body as a whole.
The brands have merged, taking reference from past collections or highlighted pieces to influence this new capsule collection. The JCXM SOCK BOOTS, at ankle or over-the-knee length, is taking physical inspiration from Casey Cadwallader’s best-selling, high-octane ‘Spiral’ and ‘Illusion’ bodysuits while the JCXM KNEE SANDAL, draws on the world of bijoux and haute jewellery so often referenced with the clothes and accessories of both brands. The same principle of jewellery meeting footwear translated to the JCXM PUMP, where a precious gold chain forms an infinity loop around the ankle and arch, lassoing the shoe to the body. The brands have boldly crossed the line between fashion and jewellery within this collection.
The final piece of the collection is the JCXM SANDAL. A playful piece which appears to magically float under the form of the naked foot, only anchored into position with a sparkling crystal ball balanced between the toes. In a way that is unmistakably Mugler, and quintessentially Jimmy Choo these pieces marry the female form and modern glamour confidently.
The collection is available in a range of sizes from a 35 to 45.
