Jeshi - Sick [Video]
East London rapper Jeshi’s new single, ‘Sick’, is an exciting litany of frustrations and obstacles that will be familiar to many young people in the UK today. Jeshi describes the weary reality of too much late-night revelry and the detrimental effect on his quality of life.
Raised by his single mum alongside his two younger sisters, Jeshi is open about the impact his early musical experiences had on his life, with many of them taking place with friends on his local council estate. Speaking of ‘Sick’ he explained, "Sick is really about the repetition of living a pretty self-destructive life and fucking yourself up every weekend but it feels justified because you got nothing better to do and no money in your pocket.”
After successes such as touring with slowthai, featuring on Celeste’s 2019 track ‘Summer’ and with two acclaimed EP’s under his belt, this latest track further cements himself as a rapper with a lot to offer. ‘Sick’ is relatable as well as refreshing, with a stripped back beat that emphasises the bass and hi-hats. The lo-fi video directed by Francis Plummer perfectly portrays the misadventures of Jeshi as he tries to escape the gravitational pull he finds himself trapped in.
