Olivia Dean - Slowly [Video]
Sharing her take on the unspoken challenges that we face when we start to fall in love is Londoner, Olivia Dean, with her new beautifully sombre single titled ‘Slowly’. The stripped-back piano ballad allows the spotlight to flood her stunning vocals, heavy with vulnerability and reflection. This release comes after her last single ‘Be My Own Boyfriend’ which brandished her self-assurance and confidence, while ‘Slowly’ exposes her softer side.
Though melancholy in sound, the lyrical progression evolves throughout the track to give it a faint introspective lift. In the outro, Olivia can be heard singing softly, “And maybe I’ll be fine this time // And I’ll let you see me in the light // Yeah maybe I’ll be fine”, leaving a shadow of hope that it will all work out.
Speaking of the track, she said, “‘Slowly’ feels like one of the most vulnerable songs I’ve ever written. I used to think falling in love was supposed to be chaotic, fiery and tumultuous, but I’ve realised that really, to fall in love normally – and to have a healthy and ordinary relationships is a beautiful thing. It’s a song asking for patience when starting to fall in love.”
