‘Feet Don’t Fail Me Now’ is a track steeped in insight and maturity from an artist with a voice that sounds old beyond its years. On this new release, Joy Crooks talks about how easy it is to slip into performative acts of solidarity while choosing to ignore the core issue.

“I’ve been posing with red skies // Retweeting picket signs // Put my name on petitions, but I won’t change my mind // I’m keeping up appearances // The dark side of my privilege,” she cooed over 60s rhythm and blues sounds.

On the track Crookes said, “’Feet Don’t Fail Me Now’ is a song I wrote in light of the political events of last year. It’s written from the perspective of someone who finds it easier to remain complicit out of fear of speaking up and what those consequences might be. I think the chorus is universal, and I hope it can be a call to action. We are all guilty of being this character. Ultimately, I hope the song encourages people to be a bit braver. It’s important to open up a dialogue, speak out, make mistakes – that’s okay, and that’s how progress happens.”

The video for the track also boasts impeccable creativity as Crooks is seen embracing her heritage through traditional Bangladeshi hair style and clothing.
