Ghetts - Hop Out / Fire & Brimstone [Video]
Ghetts treats us to two-in-one visuals for his tracks ‘Hop Out’ and ‘Fire & Brimstone’, two hits from his hugely successful and critically acclaimed ‘Conflict of Interest’ album.
‘Hop Out’ and ‘Fire & Brimstone’ are two raw singles, full of smooth flows, that see Ghetts relaying the cold facts on the law-breaking days of his younger years. Opening the double billing and sitting between the two videos is a short scene that features Ghetts and presenter Zeze Millz. The duo are captured driving together, when suddenly they’re stopped by police. As Ghetts is body-searched, we cut away from the action and switch to a new scene for ‘Hop Out’. The video reflects the themes covered in Ghetts’ verses, capturing moody black and white scenes of kids on the street engaging in criminal behaviour. Returning to Ghetts and Zeze, it’s a relief to see that the two get away unscathed, but it’s clear that Ghetts is frustrated by the ordeal. The film also highlights the prejudice that leads to a disproportionate number of black drivers getting ‘randomly’ stopped by police, and it’s clear from the police officer’s words to Ghetts why he was stopped, when he sarcastically says, “what a pretty car.” Transitioning into ‘Fire & Brimstone’, Ghetts takes the opportunity to get into some high speed antics with his entourage in tow. Riding motorcycles and quad-bikes through the dirt, we also catch a glimpse of Dizzee Rascals whose tune ‘Ice Rink’ is sampled for the track. By tying these two revealing and brutally honest tracks together, Ghetts shows in one fell swoop how much he’s been through and just how far he’s come.
