Kyra - Higher Ground [Video]
Celebrating six months since the release of her ‘Xanadu’ EP, London artist Kyra releases a mesmerising visualiser for the project’s opening single ‘Higher Ground’.
Borrowing verses from Coleridge’s poem ‘Kubla Khan’, Kyra’s ‘Higher Ground’ is an intriguing mix of elements, from its soaring vocals to its whirring production and richly descriptive lyricism. Whilst the singer-songwriter’s EP ‘Xanadu’ takes inspiration from the 1980 musical fantasy film of the same name, ‘Higher Ground’ boasts a similar level of theatricality - matched by the mystical meets modern day visuals which capture Kyra alongside two muses taking hold of a man in his sleep. Both spiritual and sensual, the Jeremie Brivet directed scenes are an epic match for Kyra’s acrobatic vocals and evocative writing.
Speaking on the release, Kyra commented, “Over the years I’ve really found my higher power in my strength as a woman. I call it divine feminity. Just like the ancient muses, I walk with a tribe – a sisterhood that ground me, but also keep me connected to the universe spiritually.”
She continues, “I do believe there is something special about this song because I can barely remember writing it, I was simply a vessel! The studio session with Youngr was so fluid – the song landed with us from a higher power. I think we both knew in the moment that we’d made something magical. I need to credit God because I didn’t write this alone. It was magic.”
