Poppy Ajudha - Weakness [Video]

London’s Poppy Ajudha releases her first single of 2021 in the shape of vibey tune ‘Weakness’, alongside colourful visuals directed by Poppy herself, for the lovestruck tune. 

The visual begins with a tropical-tinged animation. As we hear the warm, romantic sounds of a spanish guitar and the lo-fi crackle of vinyl, we make our way past pink exotic flowers to arrive at an illustration of Poppy sitting propped up on a window sill, the song’s title, ‘Weakness’, positioned above. We zoom in closer, until we are transported (interestingly through Poppy’s open mouth) into a shot of real-life Poppy posing in a truly enviable sparkly outfit. The visual puts Poppy front and centre as she sings and dances amongst a series of colourful, whimsically styled scenes.

Speaking on the tune, Poppy explains, “‘Weakness’ is a song about love. About feeling out of control and at the mercy of someone else because of how crazy they make you feel, but also feeling bittersweet about it, because you’re a bad b*tch and you don’t have time for that ish. Self-directing was really fun. I’m a control freak so it was great to get stuck into all the facets of making a music video. Choosing the team, the makeup looks, directing the styling ideas, writing the narrative, working out how to build the set. It definitely felt like a challenge to direct, star-in and perform choreographed moves for the first time but I love to push myself and am really glad I did.”
