Natty Wylah, Srigala - BRUCE [Video]
Today, emerging North London rap artist Natty Wylah reveals the title track, ‘BRUCE’, from his upcoming mixtape, teaming up with Brixton producer Srigala for a compelling listen.
Influenced by the likes of jazz, grime and post-punk, Natty has offered a spate of eclectic tracks over the past year or so, including Cinders, WHOAMI & Feel U, in the run up to his first big project, which will be out on March 5th 2021. In 'BRUCE', Wylah reflects on his defiance in the face of conformity and the pressures he's faced in his artistic path. Delivered in his fluid rapping style, which fluctuates from raw, impassioned assaults to taking a more meditative pace, he weaves in a diverse array of literary references - from Hito Steryl's 'Wretched of the Screen' to ‘Treasure Island’, with a mention to the story’s Hispaniola ship. Meanwhile, Srigala provides an ambient uptempo beat, creating an expansive, dreamlike feel throughout the intriguing rap tune.
Speaking on the track, Natty explains - "BRUCE was written from a place of pensiveness yet pissed-off urgency. I speak of defiance and a refusal to be boxed in, covering themes of self-discovery and reflecting on the world through fiction: the metaphor as truth, empowerment through inner-strength and navigating illusions. I want to remind us that no matter the semantics, the antics, your religion or creed; we're in alliance against the discrimination and evil: 'I don't know about gendered gods: just kings and queens we people.’"
Have a listen to ‘BRUCE’, and keep an eye out for Natty Wylah’s mixtape when it drops next month!
