Kojey Radical - Gangsta [Video]
Playing homage to his family and his mother on his new track is British-Ghanaian artist Kojey Radical. Opening up about his youth and how his mother supported him throughout any troubles, ‘Gangsta’ shows a humble honesty filled with love, gratitude and appreciation.
The accompanying video, with direction from Kojey’s sister alongside Charlie Sarsfield, sees the East Londoner pictured in his family home witnessing the graft his mother put in during his childhood and into adolescence. Each verse plays out with a relatable narrative, with his soulful flow illustrating any regret or reflection he has had.
“Did our best to do our best // Even when it didn't work // Lord knows I ain't perfect and I caused a lot of hurt // I could blame it on my trauma, but I put my healin' first // Moonwalkin' through the fire, a generational curse.”
The backing brass arrangement provides a rousing lift to the single that mirrors the pride that radiates throughout the chorus.
This release comes alongside the announcement of Kojey’s high-anticipated debut album Reasons To Smile, which will be released next year March 4 2022 via Asylum/Atlantic. The 15-track project will feature guest appearances from the likes of Kelis, Wretch 32 and more.
