PREMIERE: syd B - good good [Video]
Last week, LA based songstress syd B unveiled her latest single ‘good good’, a deeply personal track which explores the difficulty of walking away from a toxic and complicated relationship.
The fairytale is that even when things do have to end, they end nicely. However, the reality is very much miles apart. Some call it the need for closure or perhaps, it’s just hope in disguise. “You know when you keep letting someone in who you know fucks you up, but you think it’ll magically go away and get better?” This song helped me come to terms with knowing that I’ve been somewhere too many times before, and finally walking away, expresses syd B. “Finally realizing that last time was enough to know that no amount of revisits can force the reconciliation that I think many of us romanticize. Sometimes you just have to let go."
Capturing the contemporary R&B singer-songwriter in a state of vulnerability but also resilience and strength, the visual for ‘good good’ sees syd B facing herself, alone in an open space hilly field. “I really wanted to emulate a darker side of the story through the lighting, the lonely, open setting, silhouettes while showing strength through stillness and small moments of powerful movement,” she explains about the visual. “I wanted it to start during golden hour to resemble me processing emotions, and get darker as the video progresses.”
