After wearing loungewear for the best part of three months, now we’re slowly beginning to socialise more, dressing up is somewhat of a necessity, for me anyway. I’m longing to put my summer dresses to use, take my handbags for a whirl and release my shoes back out into the world from their boxes. While we may still only be dressing up for picnics and social distanced pub trips, we can dress for more.

Rat and Boa have just launched their SS20 collection and it’s everything we hoped for. Building on the label’s signature aesthetic, the new collection is inspired by the vibrant colour, seductive sounds and joyful mood of Brazil.

The label is sticking to their well-known DNA, presenting sensual details of scooped backs and plunging necklines alongside voluminous sleeves and sleek satins. Showcasing oversized prints, making a statement with vintage inspiration, mini dresses, fluid blouses and floor-sweeping dresses, this collection is begging for the sunshine to stay.

Giving off a confident and carefree vibe, this collection includes the frill sleeved Indiana maxi dress, the ruffled Vale mini dress and the kimono-style Dhalia. These styles are presented alongside new twists on ‘Forever Loves’, the label’s cult styles, including a red version of the Isabella and the cowl necked Casablanca.

The collections palette nods to the vivid colours of Brazil, ranging from vibrant ruby and deep amethyst to shimmering emerald and azure. Focusing on the presentation of bold colour against sunned skin, the way fabrics of satin dresses wrap around the body and oversized sleeves flow in the breeze, co-founders and creative directors of Rat and Boa, have said that the collection ‘is an ode to summer travels’.

While we can only dream of searing heat and tropical beaches right now, we’ll happily do so with a piece from this collection.
