J Appiah’s smoky soulful vocals have earned him many enviable stints as a backing-singer for artists such as Jess Glynne and Michael Kiwanuka. More recently, the East London artist has focused on his solo career, creating evocative, club-friendly tunes where his rich, soulful voice leads the way. ‘Chains’ boasts glimmering synths and a fast skipping beat that offers new surprises as it builds and channels the buzzy, floaty feeling of festival euphoria.
With the aim to celebrate artists across the African diaspora as well as on the continent itself, 19fifty7 is a new and vibrant label exploring eclectic musical sounds from electronic to rock and R&B to pop.
