Joey B - Lava Feels [Stream]
Last week Ghanaian artist Joey B released his new project ‘Lava Feels,’ which we’ve pretty much had on repeat ever since. Mixing a variety of sounds from across the globe, here stands a project that gives you a clear indication to the musical creativity coming out of Ghana.
It’s not an album, nor is it an EP - Joey B describes ‘Lava Feels’ as a collection of tracks he’s been holding in his vault for some time now. In an attempt to do something for his fans during the current pandemic, Joey decided to release the music and encourage fans to stay at home. As an artist, Joey’s style is somewhat unpredictable, he’s not afraid to push boundaries on his sound or the entertainment value he delivers to his audience. What we most admire about Joey, is his ability to create credible music that’s not too series but is also still a vibe. His music and visuals carry great comical value, similar to Ghanaian rapper, singer and producer E.L who indeed features on the album and has worked with Joey countless times in the past.
‘Lava Feels’ is a smooth concoction of new age hip hop, laced with alté influences immersed in an array of electronic beats and sounds. Featuring Ghanaian legends such as Sarkodie, E.L and Stonebwoy, as well as Nigerian alté pioneers Santi and Odunsi, this is an album to truly appreciate and enjoy from start to finish.
The highlight track for us has to be ‘La Bamba’ featuring Sarkodie. It’s a typical fun and enjoyable Joey B track, which had us laughing with his reference to the 1996 parody movie ‘Don't Be a Menace...’
