Downtown Kayoto - Rox [Video]
Whether it’s singing, smashing out bars or demonstrating his penchant for woolen tank tops, Hull’s most exciting up-and-coming artist Downtown Kayoto shows he’s got serious range in his latest audio-visual offering ‘Rox’.
The 19 year old Zimbabwe born singer, rapper and songwriter - real name Chiko Chinyadza - releases the exciting visuals to match his unapologetically bold single ‘Rox’. ‘Rox’ boasts high-energy catchiness that belies its anxiety-centred lyrics and sense of spinning out that’s channelled through it’s video. Rapping and singing amidst imposing trap beats and riffs of an acoustic guitar, the young artist is a unique presence both on screen and as part of this vivacious tune. No doubt we’ll be seeing his name again beside more intriguing releases soon.
Speaking on Rox, Downtown Kayoto says, “Rox is my fourth and final single of the year. This track sits in the alternative Hip-Hop/R&B lane, a song about the personification of my anxieties and worries through a person titled “Roxanne” (hence the title “ROX”). I made this track inspired to talk about all the things in my life that I could just deep way too seriously and stress over… And to combat this I thought it would be cool to talk about them and just be honest. I could drown in the waves, but at this point, I want to fight it and survive.”
