Watch Dutch singer-songwriter Romy Dya as she expresses her gratitude for her ex, in her slick break-up song ‘Thank you’.

With its ex-appreciating sentiments and glossy R&B aesthetic, Romy Dya’s latest song is reminiscent of Ariana Grande’s ‘Thank u, next’ - but unlike Ari’s sugar-sweet single, Romy’s post-relationship musings are given a laid-back edge, with sparse production that twinkles with a late-night atmosphere and a reflective down-tempo rhythm. Romy’s vocals are effortlessly smooth and silky as she looks back on the pain she went through to get to where she is now, singing, “Thank you for breaking me, God told me to bless all my enemies.”

Describing the single, Romy explains, “The song is about being thankful for all the trials and tribulations I have been through and because of that I’ve found my true identity and started truly loving myself. Instead of seeing myself as a victim of circumstances I’ve started to heal myself through music. The world around me changed rapidly in a good way. I know it will reach a lot of people who need to hear this message. This was part of my healing process and I hope it will heal you too.”

With ‘Thank you’, Romy seems to be setting the self-assured and empowered tone of her forthcoming debut album, ‘I Fucking Love Myself’.
