The Body Shop Celebrate SHE #empowerHER | Saturday 9 March + Sunday 10 March 2019

The Body Shop will take over the Truman Brewery to #empowerHer and provide #carewithshea this Saturday 9th + Sunday 10th March. Ladies get yourself down to the ‘self-care sanctuary’ and enjoy a selection of complimentary treatments such as express facials, massages and hair braiding - whilst also exploring live art exhibitions, panel talks and workshops. Something that we at DSTNGR are really looking forward to - is the panel talk with BBC Radio 1’s Clara Amfo and model Sonny Turner with The Body Shop’s Sustainable Sourcing Manager, Heather Ducharme. They will be discussing the impact of ethical trade and the role business plays in empowering women around the world.

Black Power Women of Brixton Walk | Sunday 10 March + Sunday 31 March

The stories and work by women have been silenced and cast in the shadow for decades - especially those of black women. This two-hour history walk taking place on Sunday 10th March and again on Sunday 31st March will bring to the forefront the life, times, and activities of numerous African/Caribbean women in Brixton, who led the anti-racist fight in housing, education, employment, media and politics during the 1950s -1980s.

The art world is also known for having a notoriously skewed view, when it comes to the artists exhibited. Male artists are often favoured over women, continuing the narrative of the gender in-balance across many industries. With the Women Power Protest exhibition, the Birmingham Museum puts contemporary women artists at the centre stage. Showcasing the likes of Susan Hiller, Sonia Boyce and Lubaina Himid - the exhibition raises awareness around women of the arts and is not afraid to provoke debate for a #BalanceforBetter.
