Ego Ella May - Girls Don't Always Sing About Boys [Video]
South London singer-songwriter Ego Ella May, delivers to us ‘Girls Don’t Always Sing About Boys,’ her magical debut single and visual from her forthcoming album. Produced by Eun (Georgia Anne Muldrow, Nubya Garcia), the track is neo-soul at it’s finest. Ella’s soft but distinctive vocal pleasantly glides along the piano driven production, with the addition of jazz like tones and a hint of bass. The song’s subject matter is one that is extremely necessary, challenging the patriarchal position of women and the make up of our life priorities and goals, when we fail to question societies expectation of normal.
The portrait inspired visual is absolutely beautiful. Directed by Jelani Pomell, the opening scene sees Ego Ella May wearing red in the middle of four black women, all effortlessly glamorous and poised. The visual continues on with scenes by the beach and other picturesque locations, filtered with a vintage overlay.
This is honestly an exquisite piece of art, from the lyrics to the video. We are very excited to see what else Ego Ella May and her team have to offer, as ‘Girls Don’t Always Sing About Boys’ is truly wonderful.
