Carrying the sort of skittish, punk energy that should make fans of Jamie T and Bakar happy, Slowthai returns with ‘Doorman,’ telling the familiar tale of a night out gone wild. Spitting cheap booze and fag ash, the Northampton rising star has been commended for his shape-shifting abilities, flitting through genres in a way that makes him near impossible to pigeonhole.

Mura Masa’s influence is near-absent until the halfway mark, where we temporarily dip into a watery world of respite, the calm before the storm. Blink and you’ll miss it, but it’s surprisingly effective, something akin to a countdown to oblivion. It won’t be for everyone, but it sure isn’t dull.
