Ella Mai - Trip [Video]
British singer-songwriter Ella Mai, releases new visuals for ‘Trip’ delivering nostalgic scenes, of a typical 90’s R&B music video. ‘Trip’ follows the release of ‘Boo’d up,’ Ella Mai’s biggest single to date, achieving her first top five position in the US Billboard 100 Chart and reaching number one in the Billboard R&B Chart.
Now I’m all about this 90’s throwback season. From the music to fashion staples, I’m absolutely game for the reinvention of what was an effortlessly epic era. The video opens with Ella at her candle lit home, pulling out a vinyl record which is none other than her new single, of course. She hit’s play on the Garrard Zero turntable and begins her confession, as to why she’s been unable to completely give in to her feelings but now, she’s done “trippin.”
Like ‘Boo’d Up,’ this track has been on constant radio rotation. I was already a fan but the visuals just hyped up the track for me, even more. A very simple visual however, the recognisable nods of the 90’s are a definite win. The solo car performance scene, the side profile against a wall shot and wait for it… the all baggy denim scene, whilst sitting court side of an outdoor basketball court. Loving every moment of this video, there’s enough to keep you watching to the end but it’s rightly stripped back, to allow the song to play out it’s magic.
