Chloe x Halle – Happy Without Me feat. Joey Bada$$ [Video]
If the names Chloe x HaIle don’t ring a bell, it won’t be long before Beyoncè and her camp find a clever way to bring this gifted sibling duo to your attention - That’s right, I said Beyoncé. After impressing Beyoncé herself, with a touching cover of her self-love anthem ‘Pretty Hurts’, they would become the first signing to her Parkwood Entertainment label, supporting the feminist mogul during her Formation World Tour, even making an appearance in her 2016 visual album ‘Lemonade’ - did you spot them?
This year, Chloe x Halle dropped their own debut album ‘The Kids Are Alright,’ accompanied by a short film of the same title. Their third single release from the album (and one of my personal favourites) ‘Happy Without Me’ features rapper Joey Bada$$ - It recalls a relatable story of a lost youthful romance, over a summery arrangement of airy synths, intricate drum patterns, rich bass lines and an overall soothing vocal from the sisters.
While they are backed by one of the worlds biggest entertainers, it’s beautifully clear that their fresh sound is unique to them which in my opinion, adds to their appeal even more. I think it’s safe to say they are fast shaping up to become innovators of the New-Age R&B sound, synonymous with their peers who feature on their very well-rounded debut album.
It’s an exciting time for music as a whole, let alone the wave of futuristic R&B artists they represent. Definitely ones to watch!
